Getting more people from BME communities into sport and physical activity

Taking places at the Signing Tree Conference Centre, Birmingham B16 8SZ on Thursday 27 March, this one-day conference will teach new ways of engaging and retaining participants from BME communities in sport and physical activity.

Delegates will come from the health sector, education sector, governing bodies of sport, sports clubs, local authorities, county sports partnerships, community enterprises, faith groups, commercial companies, community/sports trusts.

The event, which will provide examples of good practice on increasing participation in sport and physical activity for people from ethnically diverse communities, will cover:

  • Supporting mainstream providers to understand the needs of ethnically diverse communities;
  • How to increase participation in a local club or region;
  • How sports providers and the community can work in partnership;
  • How engagement is crucial to help breaking down barriers;
  • Engaging specific BME segments;
  • Utilising role models; and
  • How to build capacity in communities to provide diversity in coaches and volunteering.

The cost of the conference is £145, which includes refreshments, lunch and conference documentation.
