Young people and health

Young people want more information about their rights and how to complain about health services, according to an online survey carried out by AYPH (Association for Young Peoples Health) for the Children and Young People’s Health Outcomes Forum.

The findings showed that young people felt their views would not make a difference but they did want to be able to give feedback and asked for anonymous ways to make complaints. The survey also showed that young people are keen to be involved in overall design and commissioning of health services including the actual physical space.

The Health Select Committee has published a report on child and adolescent mental health and CAMHS. Key findings include:

  • Major problems with access to inpatient health services;
  • Deep cuts in early intervention services to help young people before problems become entrenched; and
  • Recommendation for a clear, national policy directive for CAMHS, underpinned by adequate funding.
