HCPC standards of education and training

The Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) consulted last year on a proposal to amend the standards of education and training to require the involvement of service users in HCPC approved programmes.

As a result the following changes will be made:

  • HCPC will amend the standards of education and training to require the involvement of service users and carers in order for a programme to become approved or to remain approved with them; and
  • The standard to require service user and carer involvement to ensure that carers are also involved in programmes has been amended.

HCPC has decided that the new standard will become effective on a phased basis from the 2013-2014 academic year, with all programmes we approve required to meet it from the 2015-2016 academic year.

The supporting guidance has been amended in a number of places to better explain the expectations of education providers.
