Online Peer Support: The Evidence and Good Practice

Taking place on Tuesday 11 February from 9.30am to 4.30pm at the Institute of Mental Health, Nottingham NG7 2TU, this workshop will explore the who, why, what and why not of the e-health communities connecting people living with diverse long term conditions.

Delegates will consider findings from research on:

  • Special characteristics and contrasts with face-to-face groups;
  • The underlying mechanisms of gain and growth;
  • The lifecycle of individual members;
  • Preventing problems and the realities of good moderation; and
  • The big picture and blended approaches to sustainable self-management.

The workshop will include an opportunity to network and share learning with practitioners supporting mutual aid in a range of ongoing physical and mental health conditions.

The cost of the workshop is £85 for waged individuals and £30 for full time students and unwaged individuals. Lunch will not be provided.

The workshop will be facilitated by Dr Neil Coulson, International Expert in Online Health Communities, University of Nottingham, and Mat Rawsthorne, Specialist Peer Support Trainer, Institute of Mental Health.
