NHS England Patient and Information Directorate Open House Day – 17 June, Leicester

The Patients and Information Directorate at NHS England are holding their second national Open House event simultaneously at four venues across England Tuesday 17 June from 10.30am to 3pm, including at the Leicester Tigers Stadium.

Open House Days are an opportunity for patients and the public to influence the work of NHS England at national and regional level and will provide delegates with the opportunity to hear about and influence the Patients and Information Directorate’s national programmes.

They are also an opportunity for patients and the public to influence how NHS England delivers data, transparency and digital services to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients and citizens.

The events will be connected through a live videolink at a number of points throughout the day, including a live webcast introduction, a session about care.data and a simultaneous plenary session.

The event is aimed primarily at patients, the public and colleagues from the VCS in England. A limited number of places are available for other colleagues including NHS organisations, professional bodies and those with an interest in policy.

As well as hearing about national programmes at this event in Leicester, delegates will also be able to meet some of the NHS England team in the Midlands and East and participate in two of three workshops covering:

  • Patients in Control - People’s lives can be transformed when they have the knowledge, skills and confidence to manage their own health, when they are able to shape their care and treatment to fit with what is important to them.  There is growing evidence that patient participation improves outcomes and quality of life and provides value for money. This workshop will give delegates an opportunity to find out from Luke O’Shea, Head of Patient Participation, NHS England, about the programme for patient participation.
  • Patients Online - This session will enable delegates to find out more about NHS England’s work to increase the number of patients who can access their health records online, book GP appointments online and have online consultations, and how you can help this to happen
  • Transparency and participation in NHS England - This workshop gives the opportunity to find out more about NHS England’s transparency and participation strategy and influence its development. During the session NHS England will share the latest findings of a study into the economic benefits of investing in data and technology in health and social care.
