VCS employment continues to rise

Employment in the voluntary sector has experienced its second consecutive quarterly rise, according to the latest analysis of the Labour Force Survey, with the number of paid employees in the sector increased by approximately 20,000 between January and March, an increase of 2.6% on the previous quarter,

This follows on from employment levels experiencing a slight recovery during the final quarter of 2011, according to earlier analysis, with 36,000 employees entering the voluntary sector’s paid workforce between October and December 2011.

Responses published to Register of Lobbyists consultation

The Minister for Political and Constitutional and Reform, Mark Harper has published a summary of responses to the Government’s recent consultation, entitled Introducing a Statutory Register of Lobbyists, which sets out the Government’s next steps in terms of policy development. 

 

The consultation, which One East Midlands responded to on behalf of our members, was open from 20 January to 20 April 2012. The Government will now develop revised policy proposals with the intention of publishing a White Paper and draft Bill during this session of Parliament.

 

Free membership of re-launched VCS training directory

voluntarysectorskills.com, an online VCS training directory, which aims to provide a fast route to training for the sector through its database of over 200 courses, has relaunched at www.voluntaryskills.com.

As part of its re-launch, the directory is offering one year’s free Silver Membership to all organisations to offer courses and training to the VCS.
