New guide to impact reporting

The Principles of Good Impact Reporting, a guide to good impact reporting has been published by the Charity Finance Group, Acevo, New Philanthropy Capital, following consultation with charities and social enterprises. Alongside its accompanying guide, Principles into Practice, the publications describe the tools charities need to measure and report their impact.

Voluntary sector version of Wikipedia launched

NCVO has launched its iKnowHow service, described as a voluntary sector version of Wikipedia, which will allow users to edit, add to or debate content on NCVO's KnowHow NonProfit website. The site, which provides information on running charities for founders, trustees, volunteers and staff of charities and other non-profit organisations, will be piloted by allowing people to change the three areas of the site about collaboration, public service delivery and setting up a charity.

New definition of a charity to affect charity tax reliefs

Charities that do not claim gift aid, but do claim other UK charity tax reliefs and exemptions administered by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will be affected by its new definition of a charity from the beginning of April. From 1 April 2012 onwards, the Finance Act 2010, Schedule 6, Part 1 (Further Consequential and Incidental Provision Etc) Order 2012/735 and the Finance Act 2010, Schedule 6, Part 2 (Commencement) Order 2012.

One East Midlands Guide to MPs 2012

Following the success of our first MP Guide in 2011, we have now published our One East Midlands Guide to MPs 2012, containing updated information on all 46 MPs covering the East Midlands. The guide, which can be downloaded here, is organised by political party and then arranged alphabetically by constituency. You will also find useful indexes by name and constituency at the back of the guide. All information is update as of March 2012.

Charity Act 2011 comes into effect

The Charities Act 2011, which sets out how all charities in England and Wales are registered and regulated, has come into effect on 14 March 2012. The act replaces must of the Charities Acts 1992, 1993 and 2006 and all of the Recreational Charities Act 1958. It does not replace the sections in the Charities Acts about fundraising, which have not yet come into effect. The 2011 Act is intended to make the law easier to understand by replacing four Acts of Parliament with one. It does not make any changes to the law.

Ducks in a Row report published

Ducks in a Row, the final report of the Forward Communities project, which was carried out by New College Stamford and One East Midlands between July 2010 and December 2011, has been published. Funded by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) Flexiblity and Innovation Fund, the project examined partnerships and pathways between the East Midlands VCS and further education colleges.
