Listen Value Invest 2012 - Case study request

One East Midlands continues to support the Listen Value Invest, a North West campaign, aiming to highlight the real and current issues faced by the VCS and the wider communities it serves. As part of this, we are looking for case studies of VCS organisations in the East Midlands and how they are adjusting to the new climate. 2012 will be a challenging year for the VCS, with continued significant reductions in public spending, proposals for public service reform and a de-centralisation of power from a central to a local level.

One East Midlands will shortly be producing an electronic and paper directory of consultants who provide great services to the VCS in the East Midlands. However, we can only do this with your help. If your organisation has used consultants in any area of its work, from finance to design, law to social media and everything in between, and you would happily provide them with a great reference, let us know.

Data released for the third quarter of 2011 shows that the UK voluntary sector employs 723,000 people, a fall of 70,000, 8.7% of the workforce, over the past 12 months. Public sector employment fell by 4.3% whilst private sector employment rose by 1.5% over the same period.

First report by Panel on the Independence of the Voluntary Sector

The independence of the voluntary sector is under threat from several angles, including the public spending cuts and new public service delivery models, according to the first report by the Panel on the Independent of the Voluntary Sector. The panel urges the VCS to remain distinguishable from the statutory or private sectors, or it will lose the public trust on which it depends for volunteers, donations, and tax benefits.
