One East Midlands aims to keep the voluntary and community sector informed about these changes and where possible contribute to policy and strategy development.

£5.45billion budget for local public health services

A £5.45 billion two-year ring-fenced public health budget for local authorities has been announced meaning that from April 2013, public health budgets will be protected for the first time, with local authorities taking the lead for improving the health of their local communities. This will help drive local efforts to improve health and wellbeing by tackling the wider determinants of poor health.

2013/14 NHS Standard Contract

Through an extensive programme of engagement, the insight of commissioners and providers has helped to create a new and different kind of NHS Standard Contract for 2013/14 and beyond. While continuing to provide a robust legal framework to hold providers of NHS funded care to account in the delivery of safe, high quality patient care, the 2013/14 contract also signals a new direction in the contracting of NHS services.

New Director General for Social Care, Local Government and Care Partnerships

Jon Rouse has been confirmed as the new Director General for Social Care, Local Government and Care Partnerships at the Department of Health.

NHS Commissioning Board online tool directory

From this April the NHS Commissioning Board will have responsibility for the budget of the NHS in England, using this and working through local clinical commissioning groups it will work to improve health and care for everyone and help people get the outcomes they really want.

Public health campaign resource centre

Recently launched, the online Campaign Resource Centre aims to provide a one-stop shop for all Department of Health public health resources for anyone who works directly with the public.

Making Every Second Count

Making Every Second Count is a new campaign from NHS Midlands and East, which aims to empower everyone working in health and social care to inform and enable others to make positive changes to their lifestyles.

Personal Health Budget resources

By 2014 people will have a right to request a Personal Health Budget from the NHS. These budgets will be developed and managed in a very similar way to Personal Budgets in Adult Social Care and will (should) coordinate with care budgets.

New website and resources from Regional Voices

Regional Voices, the partnership of nine regional networks, including One East Midlands, has launched its new website at www.regionalvoices.org, including a directory of all its health project work at www.regionalvoices.org/developments.
